Grant Awards - November 2012

Two substantial grants have been awarded, for enhancements at Bentham Station, from the Designated Community Rail Development Fund.  This is a joint venture between Network Rail, the Department for Transport and the Association of Community Rail Partnerships.

The first grant covered the construction and installation of Community Rail information boards at the station.  Click here, for further details of this project.  There was supporting funding from Northern Rail, North Yorkshire County Council and the Leeds-Lancaster-Morecambe Community Rail Partnership.

Recognising the extensive gardening work, which has already taken place at the station, thanks to the hard-working enthusiastic volunteers of Bloomin' Bentham, the second grant has been awarded to install a further eight half-barrel tubs, two water butts, two compost bins and window boxes for the shelter on the westbound platform.

Part of the grant will be used to purchase compost, plants and shrubs, to provide further colour around the station.

The old planters will be refurbished, filled with new compost and replanted.

The members of FOBS and Bloomin' Bentham are also working with Network Rail's Community Rail Department and have obtained a licence to rejuvenate the embankment south of the station, to the west of Station Road.
