About Bentham Station and FOBS

Bentham Station

Bentham Station lies in the Wenning valley on the most rural part of the
Bentham Line, the northerly trans-pennine route linking the West Yorkshire cities of Leeds and Bradford with the city of Lancaster and the seaside resort of Morecambe.  To the west of the Pennines, Bentham is 51 miles from Leeds and 20 miles from Lancaster, and is the rail gateway to the western Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland.

With five trains each way Monday to Saturday and four each way on Sundays, Bentham Station currently has an annual footfall of just over 25,000.  This includes Benthamers travelling for work, college, shopping and leisure, and visitors coming to holiday, cycle and walk in the surrounding area.

The Friends of Bentham Station group was formed on 1st September 2011, at a meeting in the station building, of parties interested in enhancing the facilities and improving the environment at the station. The FOBS volunteers come from the local community and include members of Bloomin' Bentham,

BEST (Bentham Environmentally Sustainable Town), Craven District Council, the Lancaster and Skipton Rail User Group and the Leeds-Lancaster-Morecambe Community Rail Partnership.

Whilst the members of FOBS have diverse backgrounds and interests, they share the common belief that the station is part of the heart of the town, a vital resource for the residents and a gateway to our friendly and welcoming community.  Hence, the station should reflect the good community spirit and play its part in offering a warm welcome to our town and the surrounding area.

There is no membership fee.  All we ask is that you share our interest in developing the station. We meet on the second Friday in February, April, June, August and October, and the first Friday in December (AGM) in the station building.  Meetings start at 10.30am with a 'catch-up' coffee.   If you would like to join us, please use the contact page or come along to a future meeting.
